Last month, while in the middle of my Suits binge, I kept getting bombarded by ads on Facebook and the like for a little spy show called Killing Eve. All I really knew about it was that it was set in Europe and that it starred Sandra Oh. All I had been seeing were rave reviews about how it was a show I needed to watch. Right. Now.
Fine then Universe, I'll watch the show! And you know what? The Universe was right to force this one on me. Killing Eve follows the story of a contract killer (Villanelle) who is being sought by an MI5 agent (Eve). What follows is one of the most wonderful, creepy, brutal, and thought provoking shows I've seen in a while. The relationship between Eve has all the joy of a cat and mouse spy mystery with a touch of the Silence of the Lambs. Eve and Villanelle become obsessed with each other in a way that is reminiscent of Hannibal Lector and Clarice Starling. The show doesn't just have the beautiful location shoots and clothes. It has smart writing, excellent plot twists and turns. It will keep you guessing as to how it will end. Jodie Comer is frightfully perfect as Villanelle and Sandra Oh further proves her ability to convey more emotion in her right eye than some performers can do with their entire bodies. It's hard to tell you that you need to watch this show without giving everything away. The show is entirely too short, only eight episodes and I honestly didn't even realize that I was binging it until I was already on episode six. BBC America is putting out great content lately…despite the untimely death of Dirk Gently. If you like the kind of stuff that I do and you've been following along with my tastes, you'll trust me when I tell you that you should watch this one.
